If you read my last post, I briefly mentioned Bob Warfield as one of the main influences for this blog. Bob Warfield is a career entrepreneur who is currently one of the leading resources for new entrepreneurs, especially in the CNC machining industries.
Of these resources, G-Wizard is an application that does and incredible job at calculating ideal cutting conditions for a large variety of setups. If you’ve ever used a feeds and speeds chart before, you know how vague and generic the information can be and how many guesses you have to make before you find what works best.
G-Wizard more accurately calculates proper cutting conditions by taking into consideration additional factors like tool deflection, machine horsepower, tool stick-out and many other specifics. By using these extra factors in its calculations, this utility lets you get more out of your machine and tools. The software comes with a free trial, but eventually you have to buy it to continue using. If you use CNC equipment often enough, it’s well worth it.

Along with the application, he runs a website and blog, CNCCookbook, that has a wealth of information on many types of CNC machines, tooling, and programming tips that is easily accessible and infinitely helpful.
I am not getting paid or promoted in any way from this article. I made note of Bob because I constantly use him as a resource, and I think more people could find his bank of knowledge useful. Even if you don’t buy G-Wizard, you can find most of the information about how he makes his calculations for free on his blog if you are willing to learn it for yourself.
